IIIT Near Guwahati In PPP Mode Posted on : Nov 30,2011
Assam government has decided to set up an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) near Guwahati in PPP mode. Addressing the media in Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that this would be the first institute of an international standard that would be set up by the state government in association with Centre and industry partners. The proposed IIIT would be a joint venture between Centre, state government, Tata Group, Oil India Limited and Amtron.The budget for the construction of the IIIT will be Rs.127 crores. State government has already identified land for it.Mr.Gogoi also said that Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Council on skills Development Mr. Ramadorai will lead the institute as Founder Chairman. Mr.Ramadorai expressed hope that the IIIT would function as major supplier of skilled resources to the national and international IT field. The first batch of the IIIT institute is likely to be begun by August next year. So far 4 IIITs have been functioning in Hyderabad , Bangaluru, Gandhinagar and Delhi .
