World Youth Chess Championship

In Chess, Tamil Nadu youngster Karthikeyan Murali won a Gold medal in the Under-12 Open Category of the World Youth Chess Championship in Caldas Novas, Brazil.

With 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 bronze medals, India bagged a total of five medals in the World Youth Chess championship.

In the final round, Karthikeyan signed the peace treaty with Ravi Haria of England and tied for the top spot along with Gledura Benjamin of Hungary. But better tie break score helped Karthikeyan to secure the gold medal.

The other medal winners for India were Ram Arvind of Tamil Nadu, who won the silver in the Under-8 category.

Debashis Das, Rathanvel and Salonika Saina added bronze to the Indian medal tally in Under-18 Open, Under-10 Open and Under-8 Girls categories respectively.
