The Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology Kapil Sibal released National Frequency Allocation Plan, NAFP-2011 to ensure efficient management of radio spectrum. This NAFP-2011 plan came in effect from oct 2011. Releasing the plan, Mr. Sibal said that radio spectrum is becoming very important for all walks of life and needs to be managed rationally. He said NFAP-2011 is a policy document which contains spectrum allocation for various radio communication services and applications in different frequency bands. He said, the document provides the basis for development, manufacturing and spectrum utilization activities in the country, both for government and private sectors. NFAP has been prepared in line with the Radio Regulations of International Telecommunication Union. NFAP has been developed to cater to the needs of newly emerging technologies including Ultra Wide Band, Intelligent Transport System and Short Range Devices. The NFAP has taken due care to ensure protection of existing services.
