Nobel laureate Hargobind Khurana died in Concord, Massachusetts. Hargobind Khurana was 89. Massachussetts Institute of Technology, where he was Professor Emeritus, Biology and Chemistry said that Hargobind Khurana died of natural causes. Hargobind Khurana won the Nobel Prize in 1968, sharing it with two others, for unveiling the nucleotide sequence of RNA and deciphering the genetic code.
Hargobind Khorana was born in Raipur village of Punjab, now in Pakistan and did his B.Sc from Punjab University, Lahore, in 1943, and M.Sc also from the same university in 1945.
Hargobind Khorana was awarded the Government of India Fellowship that enabled him to go to England where he studied for his PhD at the University of Liverpool.
In 1970, Hargobind Khorana became the Alfred Sloan Professor of Biology and Chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he worked until his retirement in 2007.
