Igoo Nallah Leh Project Flood Protection

The Planning Commission has given investment clearance to the Flood Protection and Training works scheme on Igoo Nallah in Leh District of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to an official release, the Leh project envisages canalization of Igoo Nallah for a length of nearly 14 kilometers and construction of 45 Check Dams across the Nallah at suitable intervals.

The Igoo Nallah is prone to flash floods during heavy rainfall or due to sudden downpour of the cloud burst.

It has changed the original course during past flood jeopardizing the banks slopes at and around adjacent soft areas.

The release stated that the Igoo Nallah project will benefit around 3500 people living in the surrounding region and is estimated to cost nearly 36 crore rupees.
