Double Working Shift Of CAT

The goverment is considering to make double working shift of Central Administrative Tribunal, CAT to ease the back log of litigations. Addressing a Conference of the CAT in New Delhi on Sunday 6^TH Nov the Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office, V Narayansamy emphasised speedy delivery of justice. He said for this purpose government has also reviewed the system to check the delays in filling up the vacancies arising in Tribunals. 

Mr. Narayansamy said process to fill up the CAT vacancies for next year has already been initiated. The tribunals are now more accessable to the employees.

On this occasion, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said Tribunals offer very effective alternative adjudication system. While inaugurating the conference, Supreme Court Judge Justice Dalveer Bhandari said that CAT has functioned as a viable substitute to the High Courts. 

He suggested that the jurisdiction of CAT for service matters could be extended and enlarged to include Public Undertakings.

Earlier CAT Chairman Justice V.K. Bali said that CAT has now Benches at 17 different places all over the country to provide speedy and less costly justice to employees in service related matters.

Former Attorney General of India, Mr. Soli Sorabjee delivered lecture on Administrative Law under Rajiv Gandhi Lecture Series organised on the occasion.
