The Union Minister for Human Resource Development Kabil Sibal launched the National Vocational Education Qualification Framework, NVEQF with a view to imparting skill training to the youth in various industrial sectors. Launching the Vocational Education Framework Programme at a function in New Delhi, he said that the course will started from the Academic Session 2012 in Polytechnics and Engineering colleges of the country. Mr. Sibal said it will go a long way in addressing the demand for a skill talent pool in various industrial sectors. He said that government aims at generating 50 crore skilled manpower by 2022 to bridge the demand and supply mismatch. Sibal said the country needs 9 million skilled workforce annually and at present the availability is only 3 million. Mr Sibal also said that infrastructure sectors reqiures huge investment in the coming years for which there will be a need for engineers and skilled manpower.
More than 150 million students will be provided vocational training to ensure employment opportunities for school drop outs. The National Framework on Vocational Education, which was launched on 8th oct 2011,enables these students to register in vocational courses after passing eighth standard. Students can register in various vocational courses like carpentering, para-medical, hospitality and construction among others. The Framework on Vocational Education will have seven level of certification providing students multi-level entry and exit options enabling them to seek employment after class XII. The programme to be implemented across the country in 2012 is aimed to merge the school drop outs with the country's skilled workforce. Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal, said that under the new initiative the Central Board of Secondary Education will provide degrees in vocational education. Stating that of the 200 million students who enroll for Class One every year only 20 million are able to complete class 12, Mr Sibal said that the aim is to bring the vocationally empowered students on par with those having paper degrees.
