Posted on : May 08,2010

National Knowledge Commission has recommended some points to make Indian education system better.India should have 1,500 universities by 2015, currently the number is 350.  India should establish 50 national universities to provide education of the highest standard. There should be an Independent Regulatory Authority for Higher Education. The regulator would have five functions such as entry, accreditation, disbursement of public funds, affirmative action and license.
The regulator should take away a lot of powers from UGC. Private investment should increase in university education. Existing universities should be reformed and undergraduate colleges should be restructured. There should be great stress on the need to strengthen vocational education.
The complete array of vocational training should be placed under the HRD ministry.  English should be taught from class I and hiring of graduates with high proficiency in English as teachers.
